 Inaugural Draft

The Inaugural Draft will run on Fantrax and will be a standard snake draft which will go 18 rounds. The initial draft order will be randomly selected. Eligible players will be any player who is signed to a professional contract. All drafted players will be assigned a “FRANCHISE” contract. During the initial draft there will be no trading. Since this will be a very long draft, trading of picks will only slow the process, this will force franchise owners to focus on drafting. (Don’t worry, once the draft is complete anything is on the table for trading!). The draft will run from 9:00am EST until 12:00am EST then, the clock will pause until the next day (owners may continue to make picks but clock will be stopped overnight). Each pick will have a 3 hour time limit. It is important to keep the draft moving, so please make good use of your player queue.

In an effort to standardize and put some control around initial player contracts, each drafted player will have a predetermined base salary. The salary will be determined by where they were drafted. Managers will then be able to set contract lengths for each player drafted ranging from 1 – 5 years with following restrictions:

Contract Length   # of Contracts
5 Year Contract   3
4 Year Contract   3

 Regular Season Schedule

The Regular Season will run 22 weeks, with two scoring periods per week, (Monday – Thursday and Friday – Sunday). Most scoring periods will consist of double header matchups. There may be some slight adjustments during 1st and last week of the season and around breaks to balance schedule.

 Playoff Schedule

The playoffs will run from Week 22 through Week 25 and each matchup will run a full week. The top 8 teams from each Conference will make the playoffs.

 Contracts

  • “ROOKIE” Contracts – will be assigned to players drafted in the annual Rookie Draft and will be based on draft position. Each ROOKIE Contract for a player drafted in the 1st round will be a 4-year deal. The first 2 seasons are fully guaranteed. The 3rd and 4th year of the contract are team options, so owners may drop players at this time without penalty. For 2nd Round picks, contracts are non-guaranteed and can be dropped anytime without penalty. At the end of the 3rd year (both 1st and 2nd Round picks), owners must decide whether they want to extend the player to a long-term contract, if they do not they can either be dropped prior to 4th year, at the end of the 4th year, or made a Qualifying Offer at the end of the 4th year. Player’s not offered an extension who will play out the final 4th year of their ROOKIE contract will receive a 15% increase for the final 4th year. If made a Qualifying Offer then the player becomes a RESTRICTED FREE-AGENT.

  • “ROOKIE SCALE EXTENSION” – will be assigned to players who were previously on a ROOKIE contract and extended after the completion of their 3rd season. Contracts will be preset based on ranking from the completion of the player’s 3rd season. Teams can make a maximum of 2 ROOKIE SCALE EXTENSION per year. This extension will kick in immediately and replace the ROOKIE 4th year. At the completion of the ROOKIE SCALE EXTENSION Contract ALL players will become unrestricted FREE AGENTS.

PLAYER RANK   SALARY   CONTRACT LENGTH
1 – 10   25% of Cap   5 years
11 - 25   20% of Cap   5 years
26 – 50   15% of Cap   4 years
51 – 100   10% of Cap   4 years
101 – 150   7.5% of Cap   3 years
151+   5% of Cap   2 years
  • “RESTRICTED FREE-AGENT” Contract – will be assigned to players who were expiring ROOKIE Contracts and given Qualifying Offers. Once a Qualifying Offer is made by the original team, other managers can make bids on the Restricted Free-Agent Pool, this will be done via blind bidding during the Restricted Free Agency Period. The maximum bid will be equal to 30% of the current season’s NBA Salary Cap and the player will receive a 3 year deal. At the conclusion of the period the original team will have the option to match the highest bid (must have the available cap space), or give up the rights to the highest bidder. In the event that there are multiple bids of equal value the winning team will be randomly determined by fantrax.

  • “FREE-AGENT” Contract – will be assigned to a player who is signed during off-season free agency. Once Free Agency opens, all managers will be able to submit bids for eligible free agents. (See FREE AGENCY section below). Each season an owner will be allowed to upgrade 1 expiring FREE-AGENT Contract to a FRANCHISE Contract. Remaining expiring deals will become unrestricted Free Agents.

  • “WAIVER” Contract – will be assigned to a player who is claimed from waivers during the season. Only players who are not currently rostered and have at least 1 career game played are eligible. Players who are on Injured Reserve are not eligible to be claimed. Owners are able to bid on all eligible unlocked players daily and claims will be processed daily. Winning bid will become player’s salary for remainder of the season. Owners may convert 1 WAIVER contract at the end of the season to a 2-year FREE-AGENT contract at 120% of current salary.

  • “FRANCHISE” Contract – will automatically be assigned to all players drafted in the inaugural draft. Initial contract values and length are predetermined and based on draft position. Upon the conclusion of a FRANCHISE contract an owner will be able to extend 2 players each season. The player’s salary and contract length will be based on previous season’s performance.

Eligible players for our draft will be anyone eligible to be drafted in the current season’s NBA Draft. All drafted players will be assigned an initial “ROOKIE” Contract.

 Free Agency

Each season during the off-season there will be a Free-Agency period. During the first phase of Free-Agency team owners will be able to resign their own players. At the beginning of the Free-Agency period owners will be sent their eligible players and contracts. Once decisions are made on which players will be re-signed an owner will post their extensions on the League Message Board under the appropriate thread. Teams will not be allowed to go over the salary cap to resign their playersAny players that go unsigned will be entered into the general Free Agency pool.

Phase two of Free Agency will be where all owners can bid on eligible Free Agents. An announcement will be made regarding the dates where this phase will open up. Owners will then submit their blind bids on the Free Agents they choose to bid on. The maximum bid is based on the player’s previous season’s final ranking. The winning bid will go to the highest bidder and contract length determined by table below. In the event that multiple teams have the same bid the winner will be randomly selected through Fantrax. Teams are NOT allowed to go over the salary cap with any free agency signing, so if you don’t have the cap space prior to bidding you will not be able to sign the player.

1 – 10   30% of Cap   5 years
11 – 25   25% of Cap   5 years

 Trading

Trading will be an important part of the league as there will be 30 teams meaning that the free agent pool should not be very deep. Trading of players and draft picks are allowed (outside of the inaugural draft). In addition, cash considerations are an asset that owners can use when trading. Once a trade has been agreed to, the owners involved in the trade must post the trade along with an explanation as to why they are making the trade. Once all owners have posted, the trade will be reviewed by the “Trade Review Committee” to make sure it is an eligible and fair trade and does not jeopardize the overall competitiveness of the league. If both teams have not posted the trade within 3 days of the trade being agreed to, it will be cancelled. Here are some things to keep in mind when trading:

Owners are not allowed to go over the Salary Cap

  • Owners must maintain a minimum of one 1st round pick at all times

  • Salary coverage up to $5 million can be utilized meaning a team can send $5 million and receive $5 million over course of the season

  • Salary coverage only good for current season

 Owner Conduct

In order to maintain the integrity of the league there are certain expectations that will be cast upon the franchise owners. We understand that this type of league will require a lot of time and energy and to make things easier a franchise owner will be permitted to add a co-manager to assist in the management of the franchise. One thing that will absolutely not be tolerated is tanking. This will be a very competitive league and one team deciding to tank will have an impact on every other manager and as a result this policy will be strictly enforced. We understand that in a dynasty league there will be some owners who are more focused on building for the future. There is nothing wrong with rebuilding and that is very different than tanking. There are a few built in rules and policies that should help, such as protection of picks (Future Pick Value) and Minimum Salary requirements. In addition, when making trades managers are required to post explanations about why they are making the deal. This should help the Trade Review Committee understand what is trying to be accomplished. Lastly, there will be certain roster restrictions which are detailed in the roster settings section. Managers are required to set their lineups and maintain an active roster that is capable of meeting certain minimum requirements for each scoring period. Those teams who consistently fail to meet these requirements will be penalized and if it continues will lose their team without refund and a replacement owner will be asked to take over.
